The Fitchburg phenom performed “You Will Be Found” from the musical “Dear Evan Hansen" in the finals of the NBC Competition show to rapturous applause.
“I am so very proud of you,” said judge Heidi Klum. “I found you. You found me. We found each other, and no matter what happens tomorrow, you know that you always have me.”
Klum gave Darcangelo the "Golden Buzzer" during the singer's first performance on the show in July, which propelled her to the semi-finals. Lavender has done all the rest herself.
The 27-year-old has become a household name for many in Massachusetts who have live-watch parties for her performance. Several bars were packed Tuesday to see her Finals appearance e, and she did not disappoint her fans.
"I love you. America Loves You. And tonight, I hope they vote for you," Sophia Vergara said. "You are amazing. You Are 'AGT."
Famed persnickety judge Simon Cowell said the performance was "like the end of the movie, and someone’s got to sing the big song to get through, and it just happened.”
Darcangelo, who is blind and autistic, said the song she chose held special meaning for her as she felt unloved and unwanted until her dads, Wil Darcangelo, and his husband, Jamie, adopted her six years ago.
“I want to pay it forward to the viewers,” she said. “You will be found too. There’s hope out there.”
The Season 18 "America's Got Talent" winner will be announced on Wednesday during a live broadcast at 8 p.m. on NBC.
